AFL Multicultural Support Project - CMY Sport and Recreation

AFL Multicultural Support Project

In a joint initiative, the Australian Football League (AFL) and Football Victoria have established a Multicultural Football Program in partnership with the Department of Victorian Communities.

The aim of the program is to

Develop opportunities to engage people from diverse cultural backgrounds to broaden both the participation and supporter base in Australian Football.

AFL and Football Victoria will implement community-building programs in culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) communities to engage them in the Australian Football whether as a player, umpire or a spectator.

As part of this project, the Centre for Multicultural Youth Issues (CMYI) is providing strategic direction under Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Industry Development funding to assist the AFL in engaging CLD communities.

CMYI’s role includes the provision of advice and the implementation of strategies to assist the AFL to better achieve its outcomes.
