What is NAYSS?
|
The Newly Arrived Youth Support Service (NAYSS) is a federally funded national initiative that provides culturally appropriate services, ranging from early intervention to transition to education, training and employment, to newly arrived young people aged 12 to 21.
Combining service provision with community development strategies, the NAYSS program supports young people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, to improve their level of engagement with family, education, training, work and the community. The program incorporates action research with family centred approaches and culturally responsive service delivery that utilises a variety of strategies such as case management, counselling, group work, family mediation and practical support.
To find out more about the NAYSS initiative, go to the NAYSS website.

CMY's NAYSS Program in the Southeast
|
CMY's NAYSS Program in Melbourne’s Southeast builds on the networks and relationships already established through CMY's long-term presence in the region. CMY's team in the southeast includes a Reconnect worker and two NAYSS workers.
CMY's NAYSS team in the first year (the program started in 2005), are promoting the service, building networks and relationships, developing trust with communities and supporting clients.
A focus in terms of action research is working with young people in the context of their families. We are exploring various models and strategies for engaging with families, including using casework in conjunction with strategies such as group work, recreation events, forums and outreach.
