NAYSS Home - Welcome to NAYSS - Newly Arrived Youth Support Service

The NAYSS website is your gateway to information and resources relating to the Newly Arrived Youth Support Service (NAYSS) initiative.

The NAYSS initiative, funded by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA), provides culturally appropriate services ranging from early intervention to transition, for newly arrived young people aged 12 to 21.

NAYSS Teleconference minutes now available

This Teleconference centred around a discussion on how NAYSS services can support young people and their families facing issues regarding to money, debt and bills. It includes updates from FaHCSIA and the CMY Lead Provider along with the details of potential resources as mentioned during the forum. Along with these teleconference minutes is a separate document of resources that may also serve useful both workers and clients.

Thank you to all who attended the 2008 NAYSS Good Practice Forum, which was held on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 May. The forum enabled opportunities to share good practice, and proved to be a great way for state NAYSS providers to come together and unite under the NAYSS initiative.

A special thank you to the guest speakers - Phil Crane, James Atanasious and Peter Politis - whose involvement strengthened forum discourse; and to the facilitators, services presenters and all participants whose contributions demonstrated to everyone present the amazing work that NAYSS staff carry out across Australia.

The lead provider will be producing a 2008 NAYSS Forum Report which be posted on this website.

I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the passing away of Savanna Holloway. Savanna was a NAYSS worker at Melaleuca Refugee Centre in Darwin; her absence at the forum was notable and she will be sadly missed. Condolences and details of her memorial may be accessed through
the Melaleuca Refugee Centre website.

Warm regards,

Tania Groba
Lead Provider Project Officer
